cookie monster halloween costumeSesame Street is often a big part of any child’s life as they grow up. Not only do they learn a lot form this TV program but the the crazy fuzzy and friendly characters become their friends to some degree. Thus they are great to dress up as for trick or treating. One of my favorites is the Cookie Monster Halloween costume.

There is just something about Cookie Monster that really makes me smile. I don’t know if it is insatiable appetite for those sweet round cookies, chocolate chip of course being his favorite. Or if it is his sweet and lovable disposition. Those be jiggling eyes are crazy too. And of course are part of every Cookie Monster Halloween costume.

The great thing is that there are several different types of Cookie Monster Halloween costumes. You don’t have to get dressed up in a big blue carpet with cookie crumbs all over the front of you. No there are actually some really cute outfits.

There are cute dresses that are based on cookie monster. There is a new one this year for young girl toddlers. It is a sweet blue dress with printed cookies on the front. I think this one will be very popular this year.

There is one that is a version for the young girl that is maybe just about to turn into a teenager but still has the child like innocence. If you want to go more for the full cookie monster effect then there is a jump suit with a hood that looks like cookie monster. This one comes in infant and toddler sizes.

There are also adult costumes. There is a sassy Cookie Monster Halloween costume for women and then there is a giant head that fits both men and women.

The Origins of Cookie Monster

Cookie Monster is of course a muppet that came from the creative mind of Jim Henson. He was first created (or at least a version of him) in the mid 1960s for a commercial done for General Foods and some of their snacks. He was actually one of three monsters that were created for the commercial. Unfortunately they never were aired.

But Cookie Monster finally made his debut on The Ed Sullivan Show and then started making appearances on the Muppet Show and Sesame Street. A year later he is used in an IBM commercial and ends up exploding because he eats too much! He is called by many names during this introductory period and finally gets the name Cookie Monster during his first full season of Sesame Street.

Costume to Go With A Cookie Monster Halloween Costume

There are certainly a number of outfits that will go well with a Cookie Monster Costume. You can dress up as another Sesame Street character like Oscar or Big Bird, Elmo, or my true favorite, Kermit.

These are probably your best choices, but there are of course a range of characters from which you can choose and they don’t even have to be related to the Cookie Monster Halloween Costume to have a fun time. Really that is the fun about dressing up. You can be anything you want.

kids monster costumesThere heart of Halloween lies in the scary nature of the holiday. Witches, vampires, ghosts and monsters are all the costume favorites. Of course saying monster is not very specific. Kids Monster Costumes come in all sorts of variations. But because any scary beast can fit the bill, there is no need to be too strict in what we call them.

There are hairy ones, there are outfits with scales, big and round bodies or slender creatures. Some may have decomposing flesh while others may spit acid from their fangs. Really any unnatural beast can be called such.

There are several popular Kids Monster Costumes. There are the traditional ones like the werewolf or more modern day ones like the characters from movies like Monsters Inc, or Monsters vs. Aliens. Even a mummy could be considered a monster.  For some reason I think that the older more traditional costumes have a bit more of a horror flare to them.  Somehow a zombie with decaying flesh dripping from his bones seems a lot more scary than a blue fuzzball with one eye and a silly smirk.

But really that is the fun of dress up and Halloween isn’t it?  To get enveloped into a fantasy world.  And because it is your world, or your child’s world, then it is what you or they make it to be.  Perhaps I have a dark side and that is why I like the gross and scary over the cute and cuddly.  Whatever your liking, there are monster costumes that will fit your desires.

Some of these outfits are solely for toddlers and are sized as such, but most of the monster costumes are for a range of ages from infant to teenagers. Generally you can find the toddlers up to 24 months and the children’s size up to six. Just be sure to check the sizing information for each specific article.  If you are getting an outfit for an infant on thing you may want to be sure to check is how easy it is to access a diaper and if the fabric is easy to clean.
